Hot Air Balloon Festival
P.A.R.I. (Not top secret anymore)
What not to miss in the mountains:

All Saints Chapel:
WHERE? Linville, N.C., on Carolina Avenue.
WHEN? The Chapel is open seven days a week May thru October.
WHY? It's a church built in 1910 made entirely of trees, branches. The walls inside and out are Chestnut bark. It's amazing. There's something vulnerable about it. It feels so much a part of the land. And at the same time it has a calming, quieting effect on you.

Wooly Worm Festival:
WHERE? Banner Elk, N.C.
WHEN? The Wooly Worm Festival is held each October. The 31st Annual Woolly Worm Festival will be October 18-19, 2008.
WHY? Banner Elk is a beautiful mountain town and the festival is jam packed with local artists and craftsmen plying their trades. You won't be able to miss the 10,000 Woolly Worms racing.

Sunny Italy: (Restaurant Phone: 336-696-2034)
WHERE? 477 Old Quarry Road, North Wilkesboro, N.C.
WHEN? Sunny Italy is open for dinners only on Fridays and Saturdays.
WHY? Wonderful authentic southern Italian cooking, run by 98-year-old Daisy Roselli and her kids and grandkids. (The eggplant parmigiana is divine!)

Famous Louise's Rock House: (Restaurant Phone: Call: 828-765-2702)
WHERE? Linville Falls, N.C., at the intersection of highways 183 & 221
WHEN? Open for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
WHY? Louise's is another down-home family-run (by Louise and her girls Shirley & Mary) eatery. The food is simple and delicious. And one more thing -- you can eat in three different counties inside this one restaurant. Seriously.
