Diana Rugg

Diana joined NBC Charlotte as weekend reporter in April of 2005 and spends each Saturday and Sunday bringing you the news.

Diana grew up in sunny Florida, near Cape Canaveral, where she embraced sunshine and water as her two motivating forces. She was a competitive swimmer from kindergarten through her senior year at Satellite High School, achieving the rank of All-American twice in her high school swimming career. She has also taught swimming throughout her reporting career, and still teaches locally.

Diana also enjoyed school. Her mom was a teacher and her dad was an aerospace engineer and Diana earned a prestigious National Merit Scholarship to the University of Florida, where she was a Freshman Honors student. She majored in Telecommunication-News (broadcast journalism) and then got her Masters in Education. She still cheers for her Gators to this day.

Diana's TV career began as a producer in Gainesville, Florida, but two years later she moved on to Montgomery, Alabama, where she worked as an Executive Producer and Education Reporter. She landed her first full-time reporting job in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she won a School Bell Award from the NC Association of Educators for a story researching the reasons for differences in teacher pay across the state of North Carolina.

Diana has been a reporter in Charlotte since March of 2002, and has worked as a freelance producer and writer at NBC News Channel next door to the WCNC studios since October 2004. She looks forward to bringing you breaking news while you relax in front of your TV every weekend in Charlotte!

Diana lives in Charlotte with her husband Mike, a NBC Charlotte photojournalist, their three children, a Golden Retriever named Daisy, and their fat, hairy cat.
