John Snyder, Anchor



John Snyder joined WCNC-TV in August of 1998. He co-anchors WCNC Midday with Colleen Odegaard and Weathercaster Larry Sprinkle. He also co-anchors the 5 p.m. news with Sonja Gantt. Snyder comes to WCNC-TV from CNBC/MSNBC in Secaucus, New Jersey, where he served as an anchor, news editor and show host.

Snyder holds a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. He began his career as a sports/weekend anchor at KWTV-TV in Oklahoma City, OK, and later became sports anchor and sports director. Snyder went on to ABC News in August of 1987 doing sports reporting and working on Big Ten football television team. He has covered both the Winter and Summer Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the All-Star game, and a number of major golf tournaments. In February, 1988, John became correspondent and anchor at ABC News in New York. Major duties included sports anchoring on "ABC World News This Morning" and also reported for "Good Morning America", and was backup news anchor for the morning news.

In August of 1993, John began doing freelance sportscasting and newscasting, including work for ABC News and WCBS-TV. In July, 1995, he was news anchor, show host and substitute host for America's Talking Network. John's impressive career then brought him to CNBC/MSNBC as news anchor and news editor from June 1996 until his move to Charlotte with WCNC-TV in September, 1998.

John and his wife Nancy, a children's librarian in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg library system, are both graduates of Bowling Green University in Ohio. They have two sons, both attending college in Ohio. They reside in the South Park area of Charlotte.
