Terri Bennett, Chief Meteorologist
Terri Bennett joined WCNC-TV as the Chief Meteorologist in 1997. She has more than fifteen years of experience tracking and forecasting the Carolinas' weather. Her forecast can be seen weeknights at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 p.m.
Terri earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. Her first job took her to KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa. In September of 1991, Terri moved to Charlotte to join WSOC-TV, becoming the first female meteorologist to work in the area.
Terri is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. She has held the AMS Seal of Approval since 1991. In 2000, 2003 and 2005 Terri was chosen "Best Weathercaster in the Carolinas" from the Radio and Television New Directors Association of the Carolinas. Her work during Hurricane Floyd in 1999 and Hurricane Frances in 2004 was awarded the prestigious Emmy for Excellence in the Mid-South Region.
Terri spends countless hours visiting area schools teaching children about the wonders of weather. She considers this "the best part of the job". She also shares her wealth of knowledge about the Earth, Skies and Stars in a daily Charlotte Observer column.
Terri is married and has two children. In her free time she loves to "tool around in the yard".
