Dog Unwhisperer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Roger Bernard didn't hesitate to tell me I would be a miserable dog trainer. And he didn't hesitate when I asked about that dog whisperer guy on cable TV.
Roger has a passion for training dogs and training people to live happily with their dogs. And people with great passion usually don't hesitate to share their opinions. In this case, Roger thinks television's "dog whisperer" is full of it. I won't go into detail about the many things Roger disputes on that show, but let's just say he's not a fan.
We met Roger at Teresa Lee's house in South Charlotte. Teresa recently bought two Cocker Spaniels. Cocker Spaniels are of the high maintenance variety. And if you don't know anything about dogs they can quickly ruin your life.
Such was the sad case of Teresa Lee. Her dogs made life difficult and complicated. Like having a couple of whiny brats around all day. This was largely because she had no previous experience in training a dog. And she did all the stupid things we all do... treating them like humans, rewarding them with treats, talking in a silly high pitched voice, and on and on.
Roger walked in and had the dogs trained in four minutes. FOUR MINUTES! It took him two weeks to train Teresa. Roger Bernard's mission in life is to teach women that dogs react differently to them then they do to men. It has to do with scent, appearance, posture, etc. And for this reason, woman must learn to act differently around dogs. Or your dog will run your life instead of the other way around.
Teresa Lee and other women I have talked with swear by Roger's technique. Teresa said he quite literally gave her her life back!
