Charlotte tool bank loans tools, supplies to charities

Since 2011, the Charlotte Community Tool Bank has provided tools to over 800 charities for the completion of 15,000 projects.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Community Tool Bank is a nonprofit organization that loans tools and equipment to Charlotte-area charities.

"We have over 19,000 tools and special event items available for our charitable partners to borrow from," Maureen Krueger, the executive director of the Charlotte Community Tool Bank, told WCNC Charlotte's Larry Sprinkle during a visit Wednesday.

Since they opened in 2011, over 800 charities have been provided tools for more than 15,000 projects, according to the tool bank. There are more than 295 types of tools and equipment available.

"Organizations get exactly what they need," Krueger explained. "They have their project or their event, they return it, we handle all the maintenance, and we handle all the storage."

To help support the tool bank, anyone can buy new or gently used items. Krueger said most of the items are sold at 50% or more off retail price.

The tool bank accepts the donation of tools and money to help their operation. Volunteers can also donate work hours.
