Biological sisters separated through adoption meet for the first time in Charlotte

Meg Christ traveled from Maryland to the Charlotte area to visit Daphne Tadlock and Rhonda Sawyer, who swore not to see each other until they all met inside Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three sisters who were given up by their biological mother at birth and adopted into loving homes found each other Friday afternoon inside Charlotte's airport after nearly 50 years.

Meg Christ traveled from Maryland to the Charlotte area to visit Daphne Tadlock and Rhonda Sawyer, who swore not to see each other until they all met inside Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

"It means the world," Christ, the middle sister, said. "Trying to keep it together. Broke down couple times on the airplane so...finally get to meet my blood. My DNA right here...This is God's gift to the three of us right now."

Sawyer, the oldest of the three, always dreamed of having sisters.

"I was always jealous of my friends who would talk about their sisters and things that they did and now I've got that chance to do this with these girls right here and it's the best feeling ever," Sawyer said. "It's overwhelming. It's wonderful. They're beautiful and it's just the best thing. Best thing ever, just to finally have my sisters here."

Sawyer, Christ, and Tadlock can only remember what their adoptive parents have told them about their younger lives.

"I had no name, nothing, just a diaper," Sawyer said.

Just over a year ago, Christ and Tadlock were looking into their medical histories. They discovered their biological mother and a few relatives, but the biggest revelation was finding out they had each other.

The two younger sisters found each other first. Tadlock found out that her biological mother had another daughter and saw Christ on Facebook.

With the past behind them, they look forward to building on a sisterly bond they are all grateful for.

"Completeness," Tadlock said. "It's wonderful. My heart is full. Just awesome. It's perfect."
