CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 2015 Wish Ball, emceed by NBC Charlotte's own Larry Sprinkle, raised tens of thousands of dollars Friday for the regional Make a Wish Central chapter. As if that wasn't big enough, the night concluded with a big surprise.

Austin Edwards, 16, is on the waiting list for his wish. He battles cystic fibrosis, and he can't wait for his trip to the 2016 Super Bowl, giving his family a break from the daily grind of treatment.

He was invited to speak about his dream, and after just a couple of moments at the podium the tables turned.

The NFL theme song blared through the ballroom while streamers exploded in both directions.

Austin and his family are set to fly to Phoenix Saturday to cheer on Austin's Patriots in person.

"I thought it was going to be next year, and all of a sudden it's this year. It's just mind blowing," said Edwards.

Organizers say it's all thanks to a special last minute donor who's just one of the hundreds Edwards is thankful for.

"They're just a wonderful group of people who have helped so many people in the past, and hopefully so much more in the future," said Edwards.
