1. Do your research

It's not every day that you're in the market for jewels, so ask trusted friends and relatives for recommendations on where to shop. If a price sounds too good to be true, it might be.

Don't forget to check out customer complaints and reviews for you decide where to buy from.

WCNC Charlotte is always asking "where's the money?" If you need help, reach out to the Defenders team by emailing money@wcnc.com.

2. Ask questions

Once you decide on a jewelry store, make sure you know its policies for returns, refunds and warranties. Cover all of the variables ahead of time so you'll know how to respond in any situation.

3. Create a budget (and stay on it)

Decide how much you want to spend before you shop so you won't be tempted to spend money you don't have. Don't be afraid to shop around to find the best deal on the perfect gift.
