A major highway in Union County was shut down Thursday night after three people were killed in a crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, emergency crews responded to the wreck at the intersection of U.S. 601 and Sikes Mill Road. NC Highway Patrol was also called to the scene to assist deputies.
Authorities have not identified any of the victims in the crash or announced the cause of the accident.
Five people were taken into police custody following a police chase in east Charlotte Thursday night. In a separate incident, two people were detained following a high-speed chase on I-85. That pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle crashed into a home in Gaston County.
Boone Police said they're increasing security on Friday after a student at Watauga High made a threat against the school.
Detectives received a complaint around 3 p.m. Thursday in reference to the alleged threat. Police and school administrators said they have launched an investigation. As a precaution, extra officers will be present at the school on Friday.
