HICKORY, N.C. -- A local couple has quite the story to tell after a proposal at a local restaurant was interrupted when a man burst in and tried to rob the place. Instead of popping the question the groom-to-be sprung into action.
Nicholas Anderson says he was at the right place at the right time.
Brighton, Deanna's son, and Nick worked together to plan the perfect proposal for his mom. Brighton thought Salsarita's was the best place.
"I didn't know anything about the proposal," said Deanna Deal, Nicholas Anderson's fiance.
Nick and Brighton's perfect proposal plans were put on hold after a person tried to rob the place. Monday would have been the third time Salsaritas would have been robbed this month.
"The manager came to the door and locked the door. The guy behind the manager pushed him out of the way and unlocked the door," said Anderson.
That's when Nick jumped in to save the day. He grabbed the culprit before he could get away and pulled him back into the restaurant. He placed him in a choke hold and within seconds the robber was out cold.
"It happened really quick. He knew how to handle the situation," said Deal.
After all that, Nick still had to propose. Deanna had no clue. Following the small kink in Nick and Brighton's proposal plans, they went to their backup plan: Winkler Park.
"After all that happened, asking her to marry me wasn't near as bad," said Anderson.
