CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police announced on Thursday that officers will soon be carrying Narcan, sources tell NBC Charlotte.
Narcan is used in the event of an opioid overdose and is administered as a nasal spray to save people who are overdosing.
Sources tell NBC Charlotte that the department will begin training detectives in specialized drug units on how to use Narcan.
Eventually, all CMPD officers are expected to carry Narcan but the timeline is not clear, according to sources.
