CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Governor has proclaimed October 16 through 22 as Teen Driver Safety Week, and as part of the proclamation, a presentation was made at Butler High School Monday.
Dozens of students were given safety information including '5 to Drive' important reminders for teen drivers:
1. No texting while driving
2. No extra passengers
3. No speeding
4. No alcohol
5. No driving, or riding without a seatbelt
Matthews Police Chief Rob Hunter says his officers can't do it alone.
"It starts at home, it starts with the parents."
Some students said they got the message.
"It's not a game," said senior Ariana Noboa. "It's your life."
"It could happen to anybody," said Brandon Barbour. "They might think it's something funny, but whenever it happens you, you-- it could change your life."
