Couple records run-in with deputy at their home

"It was like a home invasion, and that's what it felt like, and that's how it feels to us," said Chuck Thompson.

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. -- A local couple spoke out about their run-in with a Lincoln County deputy.

According to the couple, the deputy came to their home and made an arrest over a speeding ticket. The entire encounter was caught on camera.

"I just didn't know what to think," said Chuck Thompson. "I was like a deer in the headlights. I just didn't expect that thing to happen."

Thompson told NBC Charlotte when he responded to the knock at the door, his three-year-old son was home in bed at the time sleeping.

"About 15 feet from the door that they broke in," said Thompson.

The deputy was serving an arrest warrant for a failure to appear in court for a speeding ticket.

"He was out here for speeding and driving without a license provoked not impaired," said Thompson.

All of this started at the front door, but it began when Chuck got a speeding ticket last year.

"The root of it all was that I was going a little too fast on the highway one day," said Thompson.

In the Facebook Live video, you can hear a woman ask the deputy a question.

"Did you or did you not say that he had no warrants at the door, and that you were asking him about an investigation?

"Yeah and then he showed his face, and he has warrants, so I need to get him to jail," said Deputy Swirling, with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

"So you lied to get him whatever you want?" asked the woman.

"I can lie right now," said Swirling.

"She's tore up about this," said Thompson. "It's emotional."

He was talking about his fiancé. She's the voice you hear in the video.

"It was like a home invasion, and that's what it felt like, and that's how it feels to us," said Thompson.

NBC Charlotte reached out to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office about this video. Here's their response:

The officer was following proper protocol while attempting to apprehend and individual that was hiding inside the home of the address that was given for the individual named in the arrest warrant. The officer observed the offender in the home and had every right to enter the home to make the arrest once the female at the door refused to allow him to enter. The officer saw the offender in the home and made entry to arrest. Charges will also be filed against the female for obstructing the officer in the attempt to arrest the offender.
