5 detained after police chase in east Charlotte

Five people were taken into police custody following a police chase in east Charlotte Thursday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Five people were taken into police custody following a police chase in east Charlotte Thursday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, around 9:30 p.m., officers located a vehicle near the intersection of Eastway Drive and Central Avenue that matched the description of a vehicle involved in an armed robbery.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, CMPD said the driver refused to stop and pursuing officers initiated a chase. The chase ended when the driver stopped and multiple people jumped from the vehicle near Enfield Road.

Police charged five teens following the chase as well as in regards to a string of armed robberies.

In a separate incident, two people were detained following a high-speed chase on I-85. That pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a home in Gaston County.
