ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A Burke County man accused of murdering his neighbor and plotting a terrorist attack in the name of ISIS pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Tuesday.
Federal investigators say that Justin Sullivan, 20, was plotting to kill as many as 1,000 people.
Sullivan was 19 when he was charged by federal agents, as well as Burke County authorities for the murder of a neighbor.
An indictment filed in August revealed that the man Sullivan was communicating with about recruiting members to join ISIS was a federal undercover operative. Sullivan was arrested after his parents became alarmed at his activity and called local authorities.
According to court documents, Sullivan could face life in prison.
