Man charged with murder following fatal shooting at a public neighborhood pool

Police said a 22-year-old man died after he was driven to a Matthews hospital. His suspected killer was arrested early Thursday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man was shot and killed at a public pool near Matthews Wednesday night, police said. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were called to a pool at Clifton Meadow Dr. and Twin Falls Lane for a reported shooting around 7:30 p.m. The caller said the victim left the area in a vehicle driven by someone else.

A few minutes later, dispatch received a call from Novant Health Matthews Medical Center about a man, 22-year-old Kenneth Armstrong who had arrived and later died.

Police announced late Thursday morning that 21-year-old Tadaran Jaquan McDonald was arrested and charged for his involvement in the murder of Armstrong.

Police said due to information about a suspect vehicle gathered by responding officers, the suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop was made on the vehicle.
