Road rage may have led to shooting, police say

A couple was driving along East Franklin Boulevard near South Church Street when another driver pulled up beside them and shot at them, according to investigators.

Gastonia, N.C. -- Gastonia Police continue to look for the gunman responsible for a Monday afternoon rush-hour shooting along a busy stretch of city road.

A couple was driving along East Franklin Boulevard near South Church Street when another driver pulled up beside them and shot at them, according to investigators.

Police said a passenger in the front seat, DaMichael Durham, was shot in the leg.

Durham's driver pulled into a nearby business where a bystander called 911.

"He says somebody just shot at him," the 911 caller said. "Somebody just shot at him."

He was taken to CaroMont for minor injuries.

Detectives are looking into the possibility the shooting was the result of road rage, but they didn't detail the moments leading up to the actual shooting.

Police haven't released a suspect description.
