CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Garinger High School student was arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and officers Monday.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, resource officers at Garinger responded to an assault in one of the school’s parking lots. Police say a 17-year-old student was assaulting his girlfriend.

Police say that the officers immediately tried to get the victim to safety, but the male student refused to stop attacking her and then began to assault the officers. CMPD says one of the officers deployed a taser but was unsuccessful in restraining the student. According to CMPD, the second officer responding to the assault shocked him with a taser and took him into custody.

The student was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for precautionary reasons, police say.

Police say the student was charged with two counts of assault on a government official, one count of simple assault, and one count of resisting a public officer.
