CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An elementary school in northeast Charlotte went under lockdown Thursday afternoon.

Early-Thursday afternoon, Hidden Valley Elementary School went under lockdown, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The lockdown was lifted by 1:30.

The lockdown was precautionary and was due to police activity in the area.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say officers responded to the area after reports of shots fired in the 5100 block of Snow White Lane.

Police say they believe someone fired shots in the area but not at the school.

Officers are currently searching the area.
