CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested a man in connection with a 25-year-old sexual assault cold case.

According to CMPD, a female victim was sexually assaulted and shot in the head in the 3000 block of Bost Avenue on January 18, 1992. The victim was hospitalized and suffered permanent disabilities as a result of the gunshot wound, investigators say.

CMPD’s sexual assault cold case unit reopened the investigation and re-examined the evidence from the case. Investigators obtained a DNA profile that confirmed to match the identity of Billy Joe Henry, 65, as the suspect in the case.

On Wednesday, Henry was arrested in Hickory and transported to the Mecklenburg County Jail. Henry has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
