CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a man and an off-duty Stallings Police officer were assaulted at a northeast Charlotte Wendy’s on Easter.
CMPD officers responded to a reported assault at the Wendy’s in the 7900 block of Cambridge Commons Drive around 3 p.m. on April 1.
"We were finishing up lunch and we were on our way to see family in Greensboro," said the victim, who asked to not be identified.
The victim told police they were in their vehicle when a white Lexus, occupied by two men, sped through the parking lot and almost hit them.
"Not sure if they're having car trouble or what's going on," he said. "The second I get out, the two guys were very agitated and angry."
The victim was struck several times by both suspects and was kicked in the head during the assault, police said. The victim’s wife was confronted by the suspects after she attempted to take pictures of their car.
"I'm getting kicked and I'm getting hit by two guys who they know my legs were broken," the victim said. "They're not stopping and I get up."
The victim was taken to a Charlotte hospital for treatment of his injuries, which included a broken ankle.
An off-duty sergeant with Stallings Police witnessed the assault and attempted to intervene when he was knocked unconscious by the suspects. After assaulting the officer, the suspects sped away from the scene.
As for the man who took a beating to protect his family, he knows its a long road ahead but wants justice.
"I want these guys caught and I want to go about my life afterward," the victim said.
No arrests have been made. CMPD has not released any suspect information at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
