SALISBURY, N.C.-- Salisbury Police have released the identify of the robbery suspect that was killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night.
The suspect has been identified as Paul Jones III, 25, of Salisbury.
The three officers who fired their weapons have been identified as Sergeant Michael Colvin, Officer Jay Basinger, and Officer Jay Basinger.
According to Salisbury Police, officers responded to a reported armed robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 800 block of West Jake Alexander Boulevard just after 5 p.m.
Investigators said one customer inside the bank was shot in the face during the robbery. That person, later identified as Jose Santiago of Salisbury, is in critical condition at Baptist Hospital.
After the robbery, police say Jones exited the bank and "took control of a vehicle". The driver of the car, Larry Darnell Dalton, was shot in the head and arm by the suspect and remains in stable condition at Baptist Hospital.
Officers saw a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle, a 2015 Acura 4 door sedan, and a pursuit began.
During the chase, police said the suspect vehicle crashed into two vehicles near the intersection of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Mooresville Road.
Immediately after the crash, officers approached the car to arrest Jones. According to Chief Jerry Stokes who reviewed body camera video, "It appears there was at least one shot, maybe more was fired by Mr. Jones at Officer Basinger."
An investigation of the shooting is underway by the State Bureau of Investigation.
"The three officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on limited duty, meaning they are not in an enforcement capacity while the investigation concludes," said Chief Jerry Stokes.
