IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. – A Statesville man is behind bars after police say he sexually assaulted a young family member multiple times.
According to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell, detectives received a report on April 19 in reference to an individual being sexually assaulted by a family member. The juvenile was interviewed by investigators, in addition to several witnesses.
Authorities identified Donald Ray Fitzgerald, 39, as the suspect in the case. He was charged with 34 counts of first-degree statutory rape, 34 counts of first-degree statutory sexual offense with a minor, 68 counts of rape/sexual act with a 13, 14, 15 year old, two counts of statutory rape of a minor under 15, two counts of statutory sexual offense of a minor under 15, 13 charges of second-degree forcible rape, and 13 charges of second-degree forcible sex offense.
Fitzgerald is currently being held in the Iredell County Jail under a $5 million bond. Investigators say Fitzgerald has a criminal history including possession of marijuana, communicating threats, and trespassing.
