Woman shot, killed in Plaza Midwood; CMPD searching for gunman

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is currently searching for the person accused of shooting and killing a woman in east Charlotte last Wednesday night.

Charlotte, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is searching for the suspect who shot and killed a woman in Plaza Midwood Wednesday night.

According to CMPD, the shooting happened in the 3100 block of Central Avenue at around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, later identified as 29-year-old Jessica Smith, with an apparent gunshot wound.

Smith was later pronounced dead.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.
