1. An armed man was shot and killed by a CMPD officer outside a Burger King in north Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after an officer killed a man outside the Burger King on Beatties Ford Road at I-85 Monday morning. It happened around 9 a.m. when employees called 911 saying a man had a gun and was pointing it at workers.

When Franklin came outside and refused to drop the weapon, an officer perceived a lethal threat and shot him. Putney said detectives recovered a gun at the scene.

Some witnesses offered conflicting accounts to what CMPD said happened. City Councilman Braxton Winston was on the scene and said it's important to get the truth.

"We need the facts to come out and I think that's the most important thing right now," Winston said. "The community is quite concerned.
