GASTONIA, N.C. -- The victims of a double homicide in Gaston County have been identified.

Gastonia Police responded to a call in the 2500 block of Mary Avenue a little after 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of 47-year-old Robert Bryan Metcalfe of Bessemer City and 68-year-old Brenda Campbell Henson of Gastonia inside the home.

According to a 911 call obtained by NBC Charlotte, Henson's daughter discovered her mother and Metcalfe's bodies.

"I came to pick my mom up for her doctor's appointment, and the front door wasn't locked," the caller said. "I think my mom, and somebody else is dead in the living room."

She continued, "The guy is on the floor, and he has blood on his back. My mom has blood on her neck."

Police said the call originally went out as a medical emergency, but Henson's family said investigators soon realized both Henson and the man were stabbed.

District Attorney Locke Bell and investigators stopped by the house again Thursday morning to speak to Henson's surviving family.

Starlene Wease said she and Henson were friends and knew each other growing up.

"She's such a loving person," Wease said. "I don't know who would do that to her because we loved her. It's sad."

Police said Metcalfe's car was stolen from the house, but they haven't released additional information, including a motive or any suspects.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call police at 704-866-6702 or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
