CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has partnered with a nonprofit organization to ensure all 168 of the district's school will be a designated "Safe Place" for young people in crisis.
The nonprofit organization, The Relatives, is the Safe Place agency for Mecklenburg County. According to CMS, any child or teen can seek help at a Safe Place location and will be connected to the Youth Crisis Center.
"CMS is a powerful addition to our local Safe Place network and will elevate awareness in the community about where kids in crisis can turn for help," said Trish Hobson, executive director of The Relatives.
When a child or teen enters a Safe Place and asks for help, it triggers a process where the individual is placed in a comfortable environment until a trainer professional arrives. "A qualified volunteer or agency staff member will arrive in 30 minutes or less to arrange the necessary help and professional services," CMS says.
