RAMSEY CREEK PARK, N.C. -- Record crowds are expected to descend onto Ramsey Creek Park this weekend, as Mecklenburg County opens the park's beach for the summer.

Visitors will see some noticeable changes that the county's Superintendent of Park Operations, Greg Clemmer, said will enhance the experience.

Many visitors and park neighbors complained of heavy traffic, little parking and lack of sidewalks when the beach opened last year for the first time in decades.

"We're trying to work with neighbors and I think we've come to a solution with that," Clemmer said. "We're looking to a very smooth operation."

He said the county installed new surveillance cameras, added 50 new parking spots and decided to continue a CATS shuttle to the park.

Meanwhile, homeowners have placed cones and signs in front of their neighborhood streets to discourage people from driving or parking in front of their homes.

The park's scheduled to open this Saturday at 10 a.m.
