CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Uptown was packed with people Saturday, as hundreds swarmed the streets for what is called the "largest pub crawl in the world."

Officials expect nearly 20,000 people to participate at Rich and Bennett's 17th Annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl.

If you haven't noticed already, highway patrol have been stepping up its patrols all weekend and will continue to next weekend for St. Patrick's Day.

Organizers of the event say all donations collected will benefit cystic fibrosis and American Lung Association charities.

Troopers tell NBC Charlotte they will have every person available on the roads looking for those under the influence. Make sure to have access to safe transportation options such as a designated driver, public transit, taxis or ride share companies to get you home safely and legally.
