GASTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Sheila Youngblood isn't one to loaf around inside the 'Bimbos Bakeries USA' Factory in Gaston County.

The plant specializes in baking variety breads but the Bimbo brand carries more than weight a pound a cake with 59 Bimbo plants in the United States.

The plant has been around for 49 years and the Bimbo brand encourages the local factories to get involved with a community service project called "Good Neighbors."

This year, employees made the short trek to Holbrook Middle School, where they revamped the baseball field and renovated the batting cage.

"The project was real interactive," said Youngblood who worked with school administrators and the former head baseball coach at Holbrook, Austin Robinson.

Bimbo employees brought supplies and revamped the baseball field with a new backstop, a tarp for the pitcher's mound, eight new batting helmets and a new batting cage.

"Balls were flying all over the place," recalled Robinson of the old batting cage. "There was no use for it."

The softball team will also have access to the batting cage.

Robinson was the head coach of the baseball team the last two years, he's moving on to become an assistant baseball coach at South Point High School but the renovations have the returning team excited for next season.

"I told the 7th graders prior to them coming out and putting the stuff up, what they were going to be getting for next year," said Robinson. "They were pretty excited about it."
