CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. -- When most people play with fire, they wind up burned — but when Brock Martin plays with fire, he turns iron into knives.
"We do a lot of custom work but primarily we do a lot of weapons and armor," said the Conover native who started Warfire Forge with his Dad.
Martin has been a blacksmith for more than a decade, working in 1,800-degree heat.
"Blacksmithing can be very physically demanding," Martin said.
It's a workout in the ultimate sauna and if you are unfamiliar with blacksmithing, you can see Martin in action on national television Tuesday night when he appears on the History Channel's 'Forged in Fire.'
"It's just a bladesmithing competition," said the ever-humble Martin. "You have four competitors and you go through three rounds of competition."
The winner of the episode takes home a grand prize of $10,000.
"It never really crossed my mind that I'd end up on the show but it's a really cool opportunity."
