CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A group of local military families got an all-expense paid trip to Dallas as part of a special program.
The Snowball Express' goal is to bring back holiday cheer for families, and more specifically the children, of America's fallen military heroes.
The program provides a once in a lifetime trip for people like Bernice Stepherson, whose son made the ultimate sacrifice.
"He was killed in Iraq," Stepherson said.
American Airlines foots the bill and some eleven chartered American planes, including one in Charlotte, picks up the families.
"It's a healing process," said April Trent. "It's a bonding for our kids and they get to spend five days with kids who truly understand what they've been through."
