Highway patrol searching for pickup that hit trooper

Troopers said the vehicle was a late 90s or early 2000s red Nissan Frontier pickup truck with possible damage to passenger side.

ASHE COUNTY, N.C. -- North Carolina Highway Patrol was looking for a person who hit a state trooper in Ashe County Friday afternoon.

It happened around 2 p.m. on Idlewild Rd between N.C. 16 and U.S. 421. Troopers said the vehicle was a late 90s or early 2000s red Nissan Frontier pickup truck with possible damage to passenger side. The pickup was last seen traveling west on U.S. 421.

Highway patrol said the trooper was out clearing debris from the roadway when he was hit. The victim was taken to the the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
