CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. -- One person is dead and two others are hospitalized following a weather-related single-vehicle crash near Shelby.

North Carolina Highway Patrol says a vehicle hydroplaned on Highway 226 about two miles north of Shelby Sunday morning, left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver and the front seat passenger were ejected from the vehicle, while the sole passenger in the backseat became entrapped.

The front seat occupants were taken to the hospital; the entrapped passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The victim has not yet been identified.
