CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a teenager in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a south Charlotte residence was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

CMPD says officers responded to a residential area in the 6500 block of Wisteria Drive in reference to a call of a breaking and entering. Upon arrival, residents told officers they were home when the suspect broke into their apartment home and attempted to rob them.

Police say the suspect fled the scene and fired a shot while running from the scene. No one was hurt during the chase, CMPD says.

The suspect, who was later identified as a 13-year-old male, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, attempted robbery, concealed carry weapon, resisting arrest, damage to property and possession of a handgun by a minor.
