2-year-old left home, boarded bus by himself, police say

Police say the child had left home without his mother knowing.

CHARLOTTE (WCNC) – A 2-year-old reportedly boarded a Charlotte city bus all by himself.

It happened Monday afternoon at a bus stop on Seigle Avenue. The bus driver let the child board the bus then realized there was no parent and called the police, according to CATS.

“That’s just a baby, I mean by his self, getting on a bus, that’s scary,” said one bus rider.

CATS tells NBC Charlotte the bus driver called the police before driving anywhere with the child on board.

“I can’t imagine how that could happen,” said another bus rider.

Police say the boy had left home without his mother knowing about it.

“There’s no excuse for a 2-year-old to get on the bus unattended,” said one woman.

Even more unsettling, other bus riders say they’ve seen similar situations before.

“A little kid almost get run over by the bus, mom walking while texting, little baby walked right in the street,” said a bus rider.

The case is being investigated as a non-criminal incident. Police say no one has been charged.

NBC Charlotte asked CATS for video surveillance of the incident. CATS says they’re looking into the request.
