LINCOLNTON, N.C. -- Lincoln County Family YMCA held a memorial service Friday afternoon in remembrance of one of its lifeguards who drowned in a pool.
Lincolnton Police said employees found 21-year-old lifeguard Yesenia Linares unconscious in the facility's indoor pool Thursday morning.
She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Dozens of friends and co-workers attended the service. Among the speakers was Linares' supervisor Jenny Drennen, who described her as energetic and hard-working.
"She always comes in with a smile and an energy and a vibrance about her that radiates to everybody else," Drenne said.

Javy Salazar worked with Linares for two years and described her as generous.
"I can't think of a single day when she didn't have a smile on her face or made me smile," Salazar said. "She gave and gave and gave."
Drennan said Linares was steadfast in her Christian faith. Drennan believed that Linares was watching the service from heaven.
"Knowing that that's where our Yesenia is is so very important to us," Drennan said.
