More than 156,000 North and South Carolinians were still without power Monday afternoon because of the winter storm.

Duke Energy said crews were working around the clock to bring that number down from more than 500,000 when the storm first hit Sunday.

On Monday morning, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said 23 schools across the district were still without power.
