CHARLOTTE, N.C. - An apartment complex at Atkins Circle Drive in Charlotte was on fire after a suspected lightning strike during severe weather in Charlotte on Tuesday.

Heavy smoke could be seen pouring from the roof of the building, and witnesses saw people running out of the building.

No injuries were reported at the scene as a result of the fire.

Hundreds of lightning strikes hit the Charlotte region Tuesday afternoon as a wave of severe storms swept through the region.

Hail and downed trees were also reported as a result of the storms.

It took Charlotte firefighters 30 minutes to put out the flames.
