GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gastonia police officer was suspended with pay following his arrest Thursday on allegations he assaulted a woman.

According to an arrest warrant, Josh McSwain threw a vanity stool at a woman last Friday, which struck her on her face and nose.

Gastonia Police said McSwain has been suspended with pay pending the results of an investigation.

McSwain served as a police officer for the town of Cherryville from September 2010 until early last year when he transferred to the Gastonia Police Department.

McSwain bonded out just 15 minutes after he was booked into jail. He was set to appear in court late March.
