RIDGEVILLE, S.C. (WLTX) -- The S.C. Department of Corrections (SCDOC) says it is investigating the death of an inmate at Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville.

Ronald Wayne Franks, 52, was killed in a fight with another inmate, according to SCDOC officials. SCDOC records show Franks was was serving a life sentence for murder.

SCDOC says it is investigating the incident with assistance from the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and Dorchester County.

Lieber Correctional Institution is a maximum security prison that houses violent offenders, including many prisoners who were sentenced to life behind bars. Lieber also maintains the Death Row for the entire state.

This is the second death inside a state prison related from a fight within the last week. Back on November 14, 51-year-old Larry Jerome Rainey was stabbed to death in a conflict with another inmate.
