CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Friends and family of Keith Lamont Scott gathered Friday in Charleston to say their final goodbyes.

Scott's funeral service was held at the First Baptist of James Island. It began at 11 a.m.

Scott died on September 20 after he was shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer near his home in northeast Charlotte. Scott's death sparked protests and riots throughout Charlotte, resulting in over a hundred arrests by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Murray's Mortuary website says Scott is the beloved husband of Rakeyia Scott, father of seven children and grandfather of two children.

Scott's funeral was originally planned for last weekend, but was postponed due to Hurricane Matthew.
