CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- With the name Sprinkle, he was born to forecast the weather, but on Thursday NBC Charlotte's Larry Sprinkle let Ben Shoniker, a local 12-year-old boy, try out the Weather Center.

"Wow!" said Shoniker. "Thank you."

"He's an exuberant kid, life means so much to him." said Sprinkle. "And we can all learn from that. "There's no better compliment in life than the appreciation you get from people who respond that way."

Ben was granted a 'Dream Day' from 'Dream on 3' a Charlotte-based wish granting organization. Ben was selected for his determination why faced with developmental challenges.

"Ben is a little bit weather obsessed." laughed Mom Rebecca Shoniker. "We do have to check the forecast about 90 times a day and he just loves Larry so much. We know his life is full of possibilities, but for other people to believe that is amazing. Thank you so much for being a part of our dream-day."

After the visit to NBC Charlotte, Ben and his family enjoyed the tree lighting in uptown Charlotte.
