CONCORD, N.C. -- An early morning house fire forced a family out of their home on Monday.

It started at a home on the 450 block of Riverglen Dr. NW in Concord.

Firefighters on scene told NBC Charlotte a mom, four kids, and their dog made it out of the house safely before firefighters arrived.

The fire began in the kitchen and spread to the living room, according to firefighters. 23 firefighters responded to the scene and were able to put the fire out quickly.

The Red Cross was also on scene to assist the people living at the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
