CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NFL has upheld the suspension of linebacker Thomas Davis but the Carolina Panthers will only be without him for one game.

Davis had an appeal hearing Tuesday after the league told him he was going to be suspended for two games after his dangerous hit on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Devante Adams on Sunday.

Adams left the game early due to an apparent concussion.

Davis is forced to sit out Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Panthers star is eligible to return for the team's regular-season finale against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Panthers enter Week 16 with a 10-4 record.
