CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An 11-year-old girl is being transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car Tuesday morning.
Zion Massey and her grandma were walking to the Bruns Academy school bus stop when the incident occurred.
The girl's grandmother said they looked both ways and the road was clear but when Zion stepped off the sidewalk the car came out of nowhere.
The bus stop location was recently moved so kids now have to cross Lasalle, a busy road, said the grandmother and neighbors. She has previously warned school officials that it was dangerous and something like this was bound to happen.
Zion's aunt says she doesn't have any broken bones. However, doctors are testing for brain damage.
The incident happened on the 1600 block of Lasalle Street in North Charlotte.
