A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle on I-277 in uptown Tuesday night, police said.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on the outer loop of the Brookshire Freeway between Graham Street and I-77 around 9 p.m. When officers got to the scene, they found the victim lying in the road and two damaged cars.
The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to a Charlotte hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators determined that both cars were traveling in the far left lane on I-277 when the pedestrian was walking in the road with his back to oncoming traffic. The driver of a 2017 Kia Sorento hit their brakes but was unable to avoid the pedestrian. The Kia was then rear-ended by another vehicle.
CMPD said speeding and impairment are not factors in the crash for either driver. It is unclear if the pedestrian was impaired.
This is the second time in a week that a pedestrian has been hit and killed on Brookshire Freeway.
