CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after one person was killed in a crash in southeast Charlotte Sunday night.
According to CMPD, officers responded to a crash in the 3100 block of Providence Road a little before 10 p.m. Officers said a gray Toyota Camry ran off the road to the right and struck a utility pole. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 53-year-old Anthony Jerome Bailey, was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center-Main, CMPD said.
According to investigators, Bailey ran off the road to the right, overcorrected, and lost control of the vehicle. The car then crossed the median and struck a utility pole. Investigators said speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash. Bailey was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
