CHARLOTTE. N.C. -- One person was hospitalized after getting struck by lightning Thursday night.

Medic responded to a call in the 3300 block of Freedom Drive in west Charlotte. The person was struck around 8:25 p.m.

Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich said lightning strikes way ahead of the storm and way behind the storm.

"We find most lightning strike victims are hit when it's not raining because rain would force you to go inside," Panovich said.

Panovich said it's important to wait 30 minutes after the last lightning strike you see or thunder you hear before going outside.

Medic said the victim sustained minor injuries from the lightning strike.
